Fimo or Sculpey?

I just started out, and I am using Sculpey. Is there any difference between Fimo and Sculpey?

I prefer fimo soft. It is less sticky, in my opinon. But, really, whatever you prefer is the best for you, regardless of what anyone might say. Your style of use may benefit from stickier clay, or from less sticky clay.

I Like them both. Sculpey is very easy to work while fimo is a bit hard. But once you get the fimo all worked and ready to use...it's awesome.

I also find that if you make canes with sculpey, best to let the canes set a few before slicing.

Been using Sculpey exclusively so far. Is there any problem with mixing the two?

I've heard they don't stick that well to each other, but I've never tried it so I don't know. Don't they have different baking instructions too?

Not sure. I make little figurines which seems to be sculpey's speciality. When I think of Fimo, I think psychedelic pipes and mushroom sculptures (which is what you find if you search Ebay for Fimo). Wonder why they use Fimo for that stuff (never hear about sculpey pipes)? Maybe Fimo bakes a little harder?

premo (by sculpey) is my absolute favorite. it's a little firmer so you have to condition the clay more, but it gives you a lot more control.

I like Sculpey III - the flesh-colored stuff. It's not nearly as sticky as white sculpey and has a great smoothing ability when you're making sculptures and dolls - but I haven't tried a lot of other brands either so I'm not a genius. I do like the way it pops out of press-molds though. I hear Puppenfimo is great for dolls, I want to try that.

Depends what you are doing. If you just want to make canes, Fimo is fine. If you want to do sculpture, get Premo Sculpey. Premo is stronger and the colors hold better.

I also heard that Donna Kato, who is big in the polymer clay world, has her own clays. I bet they'd be good.

I use Donna Kato's-Kato Polyclay. I love it because it doesn't require a lot of conditioning and it's pretty strong. I'd like a larger color variety but can mix for more variety.
Sculpey was what I started out with years ago but its really soft and too mushy for me.

Does the Kato clay mix well with Premo?

Kato clay and premo can be mixed because the consistencies are similar. Just make sure that you knead them both to the same softness, specially if you are doing any caning. Greg

I have to agree Sculpey III is just too soft for me, I prefer premo. I have not used kato poly clay, but I heard it's good to make canes with. I think it just a matter of personal preference and what you using you clay for.
